Are You Still Walking?

Are You Still Walking?

I first heard the word 'walking with God and working for God' in my university fellowship. Leaders were usually quick to let us know that our spiritual activities should not allow us become too busy for the king of the kingdom himself.

I didn't fully grasp what they were saying until much later when I also started serving in some capacities.

Oh My!

It is so possible to be all about kingdom matters, going here and there for the kingdom while one's personal relationship with God is nothing to write home about.

While I was serving, there was so many things striving for my attention, oh,  there was so many of them, but at some point, I just had to retrace my step.

How did I know I  was only working for God when my walk was no longer intact?

- I was always upset about one thing or the other

- I became more impatient

- I became more confused

- I was easily overwhelmed

The list is endless.

These were indicator that I was becoming too busy than what God intended.

How then was I able to come back home?

I retraced my steps, I decided to do the needful which was seeking God, this seeking was not just borne out of the fact that I wanted to have rhema to share during the next Bible study prep but because I wanted to know Him more.

I attended a program recently and one of the speakers said something along this line. She said

Your highest spiritual experiences should not be in the public but in the private

Activities are good, your going here andand there for the master is good, but nothing should take your time with God.

Are you only working and not walking, then try these things

1. Accept the fact that something is wrong

Some people will never acknowledge that, and if we keep living in denial, it's almost certain that we will keep getting stuck, accepting that something isn't right will go a long way to coming back on track.

2. Create a routine

This race isn't just something we just run anyhow, it's something that deals first with the way we use our seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and which result to how much we have grown in a year.

Creating a daily routine helps to keep us in check and our eyes fixed, it might first be about being able to tick it off the daily to-do list, but soon it will become something we will look forward to.

You can decide to set aside a particular time to study and pray EVERYDAY, which you must be consistent with, consistency is key.

3. Listen to messages from seasoned preachers

We all become too busy at one point or the other, but thank God for technology that has brought the world to our palm. There are millions of messages online that can spur us on our walk with God. Let God lead you to a sermon at least per week that will help you on this walk.

4. Do away with distraction

As good as technology is, if we are not careful, it can also spell doom for us. There are certain days I tell myself no going online till 8pm and I try to stick to it.

It's funny how when social media distraction goes out of the way, we tend to achieve more than when every minute, we're scrolling news feed. There are weekends when you might just decide not to come online and just love up on God.

5. Pray under your breath

It is not everywhere that we might be able to pray out, but no one can accuse you of praying with only your lips moving.

6. Carry God in your heart throughout the day

It's funny how Christians of today go to church on Sunday, worship God with the latest of songs and don't talk to him again until the following Sunday.

Carry God with you throughout the week, talk to him when you first gain consciousness in the morning, let Him be the last person you think about in the night and all the hours in between your day.

7. Sing and make melody unto the Lord in your heart

Yes, sing, sing and sing to the Lord. Make melody in your heart to God. You don't need  to have a great voice to do this. If only we can have more people who can worship the Lord with tears in the corner of their room and not just on the altar when they are leading others.

Download great songs from YouTube, you can search for Dunsin Oyekan, Sinach, Nathaniel bassey, Doen moen, and just listen to their songs. You might not feel anything happening but something is definitely happening.

We can work for God and also have our work with God intact.

Luke 10:38-42

As they continued their travel, Jesus entered a village. A woman by the name of Martha welcomed him and made him feel quite at home.

She had a sister, Mary, who sat before the Master, hanging on every word he said.

But Martha was pulled away by all she had to do in the kitchen. Later, she stepped in, interrupting them. "Master, don't you care that my sister has abandoned the kitchen to me? Tell her to lend me a hand."

The Master said, "Martha, dear Martha, you're fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing.

One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it - it's the main course, and won't be taken from her."
