Abimbola Writes

Few days ago was the celebration of Mother's Day and so many accolades were given to women who had done excellently in life. Some of these women have been mothers for 1, 5,10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years and even more but today is not about them.

Dear Mother In Embryo,

How are you living your life now, is your life not only based on the peripheral and mundane things of the world, does your life has substance?

Most ladies wants to live long enough to see their children, children's children, children's children children, and even stay around to see the fifth generation. Have you ever for once considered what you will be telling  those granddaughters and grandsons of yours, what will they be learning from you?

When we talk about grandchildren and grandmas, we think back to Timothy and his grandmother Lois, that is one of those things that we should also be looking at.

What are you building up now that when you are able to talk to your grandchildren, they will thank God for preserving you.

I remember when I was watching war room, oh my! That movie was such an eye-opener, beyond the fact that the film was an invitation to prayer, I saw it as what God was calling us (women) to something even higher than giving birth.

If you are able to be at your 80th birthday, what will your children have to say about you?

What will your grandchildren say?

What will the spouses of your children say?

What will your husband say then?

Have you ever thought that far?

Would you be able to teach your grandchildren how to pray?

Would you be able to teach them absolute faith in God?

Would you be able to teach them life skills?

Are you standing in the place of prayer now for that generation after you?

Will the stories you will be sharing to them not only be tales by moonlight, would it also be of your encounters?

Sometimes when we think along this path, it can be a little frustrating especially when life is not going as planned, we might not be able to effectively capture what will happen 10 years from now, but how best are we living life now.

What choices are you making now?

What habit are you consistently building?

What kind of stamina are you developing?

Are you not still wasting time?

It's high time we began to be futuristic in our thoughts.

This shouldn't drive us to begin to worry how life will be years from now, but it should propel us to come up higher from the way we are living life to a higher calling of productivity knowing full well that we will give account of all that we do on this side of eternity.

I read this book some months ago, prior to this time I have only read one of her books, A Woman After God's Own Heart, it was a great book that opened my eyes to see a whole lot of new things, so early this year, when I went to the place I buy my books I decided to buy another one by this great woman and after reading through, I was not disappointed.

Permit me to  share with you some of the things I learnt from the book.

The  book is an exposition on the book of proverbs 31, I know a large percent of people especially ladies are very familiar with this total woman who had everything figured out, but one thing we should realize is that she didn't get to that height in one day or one year, she became a virtuous woman with TIME. Anything worthwhile takes time, we also should be ready to give it time.

Although having all this attributes might seem so far away, but we have to continue to put one foot in front of another - by taking one step after one step after one step- we will finally arrive at our destination which is becoming beautiful in God's eyes.

The Proverbs 31 woman was not just a woman who was conjured up by a man, it was actually a woman's definition of who an ideal woman should be.  We also should start seeing as a guide given to us from an elderly woman.

Contrary to the world's belief system that beauty is just the matter of the skin, I learnt from reading this book  that God's definition of beauty transcends this. It is not just about having loving physical features that is pleasant to the eyes...

Being beautiful is about...

1. Having a personal relationship with God

2. Knowing God's will and doing it

3. Being a woman with the heart of a mother

4. Being a woman with an helping hand, who is always willing to help out no matter how small

5. Being a good manager of time, not wasting time but investing time

6. Being a good home keeper, acquiring the needed skill to excel in this aspect

7. Being a woman whose finances are together,  not just purchasing things on impulse but thinking them through

8. Being submissive to the man in her life because that is the will of God

9. Being able to prioritize and choose her battles

10. Being a woman who is excellent at everything she does

10. Being a woman who is willing to learn  money skills, who  learns how to make money, manage money, save money, invest money, and all these will in turn make us  more of an help meet.

11. Being a woman who values each day, who knows fully well that how we live each day is our 'one step at a time ' towards excellence

Let me stop here for now.

If you haven't read this book, please do well to purchase it on your next visit to the bookstore, it will definitely  be worth your money.

Are You Still Walking?

I first heard the word 'walking with God and working for God' in my university fellowship. Leaders were usually quick to let us know that our spiritual activities should not allow us become too busy for the king of the kingdom himself.

I didn't fully grasp what they were saying until much later when I also started serving in some capacities.

Oh My!

It is so possible to be all about kingdom matters, going here and there for the kingdom while one's personal relationship with God is nothing to write home about.

While I was serving, there was so many things striving for my attention, oh,  there was so many of them, but at some point, I just had to retrace my step.

How did I know I  was only working for God when my walk was no longer intact?

- I was always upset about one thing or the other

- I became more impatient

- I became more confused

- I was easily overwhelmed

The list is endless.

These were indicator that I was becoming too busy than what God intended.

How then was I able to come back home?

I retraced my steps, I decided to do the needful which was seeking God, this seeking was not just borne out of the fact that I wanted to have rhema to share during the next Bible study prep but because I wanted to know Him more.

I attended a program recently and one of the speakers said something along this line. She said

Your highest spiritual experiences should not be in the public but in the private

Activities are good, your going here andand there for the master is good, but nothing should take your time with God.

Are you only working and not walking, then try these things

1. Accept the fact that something is wrong

Some people will never acknowledge that, and if we keep living in denial, it's almost certain that we will keep getting stuck, accepting that something isn't right will go a long way to coming back on track.

2. Create a routine

This race isn't just something we just run anyhow, it's something that deals first with the way we use our seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and which result to how much we have grown in a year.

Creating a daily routine helps to keep us in check and our eyes fixed, it might first be about being able to tick it off the daily to-do list, but soon it will become something we will look forward to.

You can decide to set aside a particular time to study and pray EVERYDAY, which you must be consistent with, consistency is key.

3. Listen to messages from seasoned preachers

We all become too busy at one point or the other, but thank God for technology that has brought the world to our palm. There are millions of messages online that can spur us on our walk with God. Let God lead you to a sermon at least per week that will help you on this walk.

4. Do away with distraction

As good as technology is, if we are not careful, it can also spell doom for us. There are certain days I tell myself no going online till 8pm and I try to stick to it.

It's funny how when social media distraction goes out of the way, we tend to achieve more than when every minute, we're scrolling news feed. There are weekends when you might just decide not to come online and just love up on God.

5. Pray under your breath

It is not everywhere that we might be able to pray out, but no one can accuse you of praying with only your lips moving.

6. Carry God in your heart throughout the day

It's funny how Christians of today go to church on Sunday, worship God with the latest of songs and don't talk to him again until the following Sunday.

Carry God with you throughout the week, talk to him when you first gain consciousness in the morning, let Him be the last person you think about in the night and all the hours in between your day.

7. Sing and make melody unto the Lord in your heart

Yes, sing, sing and sing to the Lord. Make melody in your heart to God. You don't need  to have a great voice to do this. If only we can have more people who can worship the Lord with tears in the corner of their room and not just on the altar when they are leading others.

Download great songs from YouTube, you can search for Dunsin Oyekan, Sinach, Nathaniel bassey, Doen moen, and just listen to their songs. You might not feel anything happening but something is definitely happening.

We can work for God and also have our work with God intact.

Luke 10:38-42

As they continued their travel, Jesus entered a village. A woman by the name of Martha welcomed him and made him feel quite at home.

She had a sister, Mary, who sat before the Master, hanging on every word he said.

But Martha was pulled away by all she had to do in the kitchen. Later, she stepped in, interrupting them. "Master, don't you care that my sister has abandoned the kitchen to me? Tell her to lend me a hand."

The Master said, "Martha, dear Martha, you're fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing.

One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it - it's the main course, and won't be taken from her."
